Southern lights

Long ago there lived a young boy who always went to the beach to see the Southern Lights.

His name was Tane.

He wanted to see them all his life.

When he grew up he built a waka that could fit 72 men, and 2 were wise men. But Tane had to pack enough food and water to feed the men he designed the waka with paua shells.

All the young men went to sail with him to find the southern lights.

Halfway through some men got drowned and the waka got damaged.

When it got darker the southern lights come out and they got brighter.

So Tane the chief said "We're close to the Southern lights"  so they paddled harder.

They got closer and closer again but more men drowned by a wave and then it was only Tane

left on the Waka.

He had to finish it by himself.

But he was even closer when it was night again.

But when it was morning he had made a dream come true.
